Reflecting on 2023 American Pharmacists Month
October has been a busy month with a range of awareness campaigns including Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), National Pet Wellness Month and National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). At the opening general session during McKesson ideaShare 2023, Health Mart awarded Virginia Keller, RPh, with the Health Mart Lifetime Achievement Award for her 50 years of serving her community of Ponca, Nebraska. Her story is rich with many ups and downs with threads of family and community running through it.
Celebrating Women in Pharmacy Oct. 12
Women Pharmacist Day was established several years ago by the Pharmacists Moms Facebook group. The day helps bring awareness to the growing influence women have in the pharmacy industry. According to the #WomenPharmacistDay website, Oct. 12 was chosen because October is American Pharmacists Month and the first recognized U.S. female pharmacist, Elizabeth Gooking Greenleaf was the mother of 12 children.
